Wrestling

The Capital Bruins Wrestling season this year has been outstanding. The boys are working extremely hard on both Junior Varsity and Varsity. Chance Lee, a junior here at CHS, says the team overall has improved immensely from his previous two years. Lee says, “(The) team we have is a stronger team this year. There are a lot of guys who went to divisionals” -- which was held at CHS on February 4th.

Lee wrestles both JV and Varsity. He is wrestling at 170 this year. His season is 23-6.“Our second year coach has really made an impact,” Lee says. “I love that the sport a physical and mental sport, and it’s just awesome to dominate a kid and beat them in a match. Having your arm raised after you just won a match is a great feeling also .”

At cross-town wrestling, there were many good matches. Wrestler Shamus Bartmus, a senior this year, pinned Joel Clark a senior at HHS, in a matter of minutes. The match was surprising because they are two great wrestlers.

Bartmus says his season is going well so far. “I have lost a couple matches this season that I should have won which happens sometimes.” Bartmus is wrestling in the 160 weight class. He is planning to cut weight for state. Many wrestlers cut weight in many different ways. Many go to saunas or don't eat or drink before they have to weigh in. Many spit to try and lose weight. Bartmus loves wrestling. He enjoys seeing his team mates “beat up on people”. However, the bus rides are his favorite. He always is making new memories with his team.

Another Wrestler who has had a lot of success this season is sophomore Lee Lambrecht. Lee is ranked fourth in the state as of right now. Lambrecht is wresting in the 132 weight class. His favorite part of wrestling is competing and being with his friends. He is excited for Divisionals and State along with senior Nick Kunz.

At X-Town wrestling, Nick Kunz wrestled HHS junior Austin Murphy. Nick won the match with a bit of a fight. He has had a amazing season so far. He is 30-1. He is wrestling at 120 this year. He says he loves challenges. The team is amazing over all. As a team they are all slowly working their way up, and continuing to get better. Capital High’s wrestling program is a great way to get involved and stay in shape. No Grind, No Glory.
