Require ACTs Or Trade 'Em

By, Eve Christensen

The ACT is the test score that colleges look at when they consider accepting the applicant into the college, Usually students have to pay for the test:, the cost without the writing portion is $34 dollars and with the writing costs$49 dollars and fifty cents. Juniors here at Capital and Helena High take the ACT without paying for it since the Board Of Education pays for it as a substitute for the smarter balance testing. The ACT is different for everyone; for some it's easy, for others it’s a stressful and anxiety -filled day. Many students, like those going into the trades such as welding and mechanics often are basically taking a test for no reason. Trade schools don’t really look at their ACTS scores of their applicants;, the school looks more at a students work and how well their work was done. Even though these kids can still change their minds about going into the trades most of them have their hearts fully set on going to trade schools. some of them don’t even know if they want to go to college. Some of the kids have already have internships lined up for post graduation. The kids that are dead set on going to a trade school should have the right to choose if they wanted to talk the ACT or

Although the Board Of Education has tried to help juniors out a little more with the ACT having it be free for us to take and even paying to send the results off to four colleges of our choice, it should be up to the student to decide if they want to take the ACT considering some of the kids already have made their choices on what they wanted to do after they graduate.
