Quantum Quintet

By, Meagan Broussard

Five dedicated students from Capital High School are showing their love for the musical arts by creating their own string group.

Jenalyn Slead, Kylie Heit, Ryan Johnson, Slayden Rasmussen, and Braelyn Germaine decided to start a group together in early 2019.

The group decided to call themselves the “Quantum Quintet” because, as Slead says, “We were just looking for a name, and we liked the word ‘Quantum’.”

The Quintet had a full day of performances at both the Free Craft Show, and Scenic Brew on Saturday, April 27th. They played at the Free Craft Show from 11:00am through 2:00pm, and continued playing at Scenic Brew from 3:00pm to 5:00pm

At practices, the group goes over music diligently and plays each piece with care to reach perfection. They play many pieces from many composers, ranging from modernly known music to pieces some of us may have never heard. They work well together and are a committed team.

At the District Music Festival, they played together performing “In the Hall of The Mountain King” by Edward Grieg, and earned a superior score of a 1, ( scores are on a range from 1-5, with a 5 being the worst.) which advanced them to the State Festival beginning on May 4th. At State, the group received a 2, which is one point off from an exceptional score.

Their Instagram (@the_quantum_quintet) biography states, “We are a high school string group looking to play more publicly. We will play any event, just call us for more info @ (406) 439-8765 or (406) 459-4360”
