Here at Capital High, there is a club CHS junior Josh Collins. dedicated to making the school, and the community aware and supportive of the LGBTQ people of Helena by being supportive of one another, by doing things like walks, bake sales, and other awareness events.
Walking in looking around at the club people wouldn’t know that you had walked into the LGBTQ community or some of the people in the room would be part of the LGBTQ community they aren’t, or would be there to support the group in their mission to help the community ,others who haven’t come out and people who want to be supportive.
The club meetings start off as a serious meeting but tend to turn goofy and more laid back as the meeting goes on . They welcome everyone with warm open arms, It’s over all has a family like feel to the club, it’s just a fantastic place to be if you were wanting to join or invited to come sit down and see what their all about. At lunch meetings, the group spends first fifteen to twenty minutes talking about the agenda for their event such as pride walks, bake sales and more Such as working with businesses and other people around the community to help support people who aren’t in the school working with PFLAG a national organization whose website says they “advance equality” for members of the LGBTQ community.. The last minutes are usually spent talking about problems individual members might be having, simply just talking, or sitting around laughing and smiling. QSA helps the people in the community by “providing a safe place, we have strict rules that state whatever happens in the club stays in the club and we watch out for one another like family.”
When asked how the club can benefit people he replied “They learn information about the LGBT community and how they can help a friend or family member struggling coming out or the hatred of humanity It also provides a positive vibe and protection from the outside world. It just gives them strength in my mind.”
