On Sunday, February 3rd, the Capital High and Helena High auditioned orchestras were scheduled to depart for Kalispell, Montana for the AA Music Festival. The groups were scheduled to depart Helena around noon and arrive to Kalispell in time to watch the Super Bowl. Sadly, the groups had no such luck.
The CHS Chamber Orchestra students arrived at Capital as early as 11:00 am on the 3rd before being informed by a chaperone that the trip would be called off due to road conditions. As the snow kept falling into the morning of the 4th, any chance at attending the festival fell as well. The complete cancellation was announced the 4th at 12:00 noon.
The groups were scheduled for 2 days of intensive 8 hour rehearsal times with a guest conductor while working with other top notch orchestras. According to Nathan Hallauer (‘19), president of the Orchestra Club, the group is “heart broken, but will go on” due to the unfortunate circumstances of the situation.
