Let's Engineer... by Lilly LeGrand

Updated: Dec 18, 2018

On September 20 at Exploration Works, a new exhibit titled “Engineer It!” has been opened to the public. Kelly Posewitz, Executive Director, and her team worked together to create the new exhibit--something that is new for them. They partnered with eight different engineering firms, two of them being Morrison Maierle and Tetra Tech.

“We introduce kids to the wide world of civil engineering and the role it plays in the community, and it shows kids the many different career opportunities ” explained Kelly in a cheery voice.

The exhibit was built on site in the basement workshop by the exhibits manager, Matt Jerry; The team already had many of the pieces, such as the shake table. The exhibit is geared more towards elementary and preschool kids, but there are many facts displayed about the different jobs around the exhibit and high schoolers can volunteer to help out at the museum. Pieces of the exhibit include: “Quake Shake Table”, “Lego table”, “The Whole of Civil Engineering”, “The Seven Wonders of the Modern World”, and vintage Morrison Maierle equipment including facts about the pieces of technology, “Typhoon Table”, and “Did You Know?” facts with each piece.

Kelly stated that “This is unique to us and I think that is why we are excited about sharing it with other museums for I don’t think I’ve seen anything like this.” She hopes to inspire the public to be creative and to have fun building. The exhibit will be open until January 2019.
