Junior Career Fairs

By Eve Christensen

Throughout your life you hear the same question over and over: “What do you want to do when you leave high school? Or”What do you want to be when you grow up?” Many of us don’t have an answer to this nerve wracking question because we just don’t know. Luckily for us, about midway through Junior year, we have a career fair that the Capital High Staff put on bringing in guests from different careers, this occurred during our fifth period classes. A week or so before, each Junior took a small survey asking them which profession they were most interested in. On the big day, each session was only about fifteen minutes, and you went to sessions by people in the two professions given to you early in the day on a colored card based on your survey answers from the prior week. These sessions were designed to help get us move in the right direction and to think about the classes we pick, especially when thinking about going to college or what we need to do to prepare ourselves. To anyone who’s going to be a Junior, I know it seems boring and that you might want to skip and go do something else, but it’s actually pretty informative for anyone who wants a little more background on various professions such as what education you need or so you can get a feel of how the classes are going to be if you are thinking about going into that career.
