It’s that time of the year once again; the weather is warmer, the students are happier-- or more stressed out-- and the senior class is graduating.
The graduating class of 2019 is diverse in their plans for summer and beyond.
According to a survey of the senior class (with 136 responses) conducted by The Paw Print, about 80% of seniors are planning on going to college after graduating from Capital. This class ranges widely when it comes to college majors. Students are looking into over 80 majors at more 40 colleges around the country. Ranging from molecular biology and fire sciences to education and horticulture, the fields that interest this year’s seniors spans a wide spectrum. The class of 2019 is looking at attending universities and community colleges all around the nation including but not limited to Montana State University, Dawson Community College, Gonzaga University, Brigham Young University as well as University of Jamestown and Oklahoma Christian University.
But college is not the only arena seniors will go enter after graduation;according to The Paw Print survey, 4% of the 2019 class is going into some type of trade school after Capital High. Many are looking into vocations such as machining and welding, but others are going to trade schools to become, for instance, a barber or a programer.
Even with the options of college and trade school, about 9% of graduating seniors surveyed said they are planning on going straight into the workforce in order to attain a different type of education that the typical classroom cannot provide.
