Glass

By: Eve Christensen

The movie Glass combines Bruce Willis, James McAvoy, and Samuel. L. Jackson movie characters from movies many of us know, such as Split and Unbreakable. The movie starts off as a typical superhero movie with, a crime is committed, someone finds the perpetrator and brings the criminals to justice. Here things start to get heated. The character David Dunn, played by Bruce Willis, is trying to find some missing teens. He finds them, but in order to save the four teens he has to fight The Beast. The Beast took the four teen cheerleaders due to their not having suffered in their lives. l. This part was just another typical fight scene, just to have the audience see the two fight; however, the suspense in this scene--trying to figure who was going to win or lose--was like wondering if you left the stove on at home.

Law enforcement then takes Bruce Willis and The Beast to a highly guarded mental hospital, making the viewers feel hardcore sympathy for the people in this place. Those in charge use the person’s worst fear to try to treat their patients of their illnesses. For example, on one patient they used water to treat him due to the fact he had almost drowned at one time. On another, they used pills to keep him from fully using his powers to move or try to get free from the hospital. This is all part of the treatment plan made by the doctor to help David Dunn, Mr.Glass and The Beast cure their comic book-like powers.

As the hospital scene wears on, the true anger and sorrow build up. These emotions are attributed to how the doctors say they help people, but in all reality all they do is just abuse their power over another human life. This abuse makes anything a struggle for those people being treated. But, the most frustrating and depressing moment is when Mr. Glass, The Beast and David Dunn planned and actually break out of the high security hospital. The breakout leads to about the last half hour of the movie being the most action packed part of the whole movie. They escape by having Willis fight not only the guards and The Beast but also by saving the people around the property from the fight.

The audience learns a dark secret about the leader, Mr. Glass, that completely changes the way they see him. As a shocking twist, Glass betrays the one person who he promised to help the most from the institution. In the end, Mr. Glass ends up meeting his own downfall due to his brittle bones being crushed by his own weight when he falls out of his wheelchair.

The part that will make you want to throw popcorn at the screen is when The Beast and David meet their untimely, horrific deaths. Even more twisted is the fact that both die as their loved ones have to sit and watch. All of this is due to the fact that an evil origination, led by a human-like demon, wants to cover up a truth about heroes being real because they were afraid of being replaced by an actual respected hero that people looked up to. Glass leaves you wanting to walk out on the movie upset with the only take away of the movie being if you have super powers, hide from the government eye and mental institutions.
