Gamers, get ready for the game we all have been waiting for... drum roll please... Super Smash Bros. Ultimate!!!

The game starts with a short movie showing characters from various Nintendo games with music playing in the background. There are hints throughout the short movie about some of the things that the player can do throughout the game. For example, one of the hints is an army of the characters except they have red glowing eyes and they are not their usual color schemes that the player might have to fight.

There are different modes in the game that the player can select from: Smash, Squad Strike, Tourney, Special Smash, Classic Mode, Training, Mob Smash, Challenger's Approach, Spirit Board (NEW!), and World of Light [Adventure Mode].

The Smash mode is the same as the other ones, at least it is the same as the Super Smash Bros. games I've played except there are only a few characters to choose from. This might be confusing at first because the short movie and other parts of the game show there being more characters that you can play; the characters you have to choose from in the beginning are Mario, Donkey Kong, Link, Samus, Yoshi, Kirby, Fox and Pikachu. This is where Challenger's Approach comes in. After every other battle or after you use another mode, there is an alarm sound introducing a red screen with a silhouette of a character (some are pretty easy to identify); if you are playing multiplayer mode with friends or family, the winner will have to fight the unlockable character. You will have to fight this character, and if you win the fight, in a sense, you gain their trust. If you lose, though, you can go to the vault and there should be a door that you can click on and you can fight the character(s) that you have lost fights against until you win. There are 63 unlockable characters (these do not include Mii Fighters), some of those include Bowser, Inkling, Ike, Sonic, Zero Suit Samus and Samus, Pichu, Mega Man, and Pacman. Each character also has a few accessories, gender changes (Pikachu can now be changed to a girl with certain costumes), color changes you choose from while playing (Disclaimer: You cannot give accessories or choose the colors for characters. These are already decided).

The Classic Mode is a 7 round gauntlet of fights (including a bonus level and a small game during the credits where you can snag some more points) [after finished routes there are Challenger Approaches, some characters you can unlock quickly if you play as certain character] where each character you have has their own special route and you can change the intensity level of the route using a scrolling mural of the characters. With each round you complete, the intensity level goes up by a maximum of .5 if you take no damage or finish perfectly. If you perish, you can use a ticket to continue the fight or pay (game) money and lower the intensity level. The higher the level of intensity the better the rewards are - rewards include Spirits, Snacks (for Spirits), Items, Gold, Mii Outfits, and Music - but I highly suggest if you are new to the Classic Mode or really just want to unlock a certain character then play at a lower intensity level. The mode is almost like Smash Mode, except you will have to fight against 2 to 6 computer-played characters; you play with a friend, and it then becomes more like a Team Mode.

The Spirit Board is a new feature to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. In this mode it will show a board with different Spirits - game characters with abilities that can give your fighters a boost in battle - that you can fight to add to your collection. WARNING!!! You can only fight Spirits once, meaning if you lose the fight then you will have to try to gain them in World of Light (unless it is a event Spirit). Spirits are characters from a variety of games that each have their own special ability that help you out during World of Light and other modes of the game. There are two types of Spirits, Primary - they boost your fighter's physical abilities - and Support - they grant new skills; they also have classes that they each go under that are represented by star rating: Novice (1 star), Advanced (2 stars), Ace (three stars), and Legend (four stars). The Primary Spirits have one of four strength types: attack, grab, shield, and neutral, with attack being strong against grab, grab against shield, shield against attack, and neutral having no advantage or disadvantage against the other three. While Support Spirits are equipped on top of primary spirits and grant the fighter specials skills, such as increased jumping, or equipping them with a specific item. In World of Light, the Spirit is instantly gifted to you, on the other hand, in the Spirit Board after beating a Puppet Fighter that is dazed and surrounded by a round, spinning shield, you have a chance to obtain the Spirit by firing a gun through the opening of the shield. If you time the shot correctly, the spirit is acquired. If you unsuccessfully hits any part of the shield, it is broken off and you do not win the Spirit; the shield rotates faster the higher rank the Spirit is. You can also level up Spirits by feeding them snacks - Small, Medium, and Large - you get through out the game and a few Spirits can be enhanced at level 99 but restart them at level 1. You can also unlock a Gym, Dojo, and Explore after fighting Master Spirits; in the Gym, you can leave up to four Primary Spirits to have them level up overtime, in the Dojo, up to four primary Spirits can be left to learn special styles that increase some stats while weakening others (in the case of Slowpoke, Spirits can forget styles they have learned) (this process can be accelerated by paying Spirit Points), in Explore, you can send Primary and/or Support Spirits to the Ruins, Caves, or Jungle to search for treasure. The expedition lasts for multiple real-time hours, and can be canceled at any time.

Various Spirits in the game

World of Light is a single player adventure mode that can be found in the Spirits main menu; its main focus is to awake fellow fighters from the control of mysterious Galeem. When you start playing World of Light a short movie begins, it shows the fighters standing on a cliff ready to fight Galeem's army of light. Now, you probably expect the fighters to win the fight and save the day, well they don't. Every single fighter is defeated, except one: Kirby. As Kirby you must fight the puppets of the other fighters to awake the actual fighter and save the side characters that have been turned into Spirits - you have to fight the puppets and win the fight in order to get the Spirits (if you lose the fight you can always go back and try again [I suggest to either keep trying or to go to a different fight until you get the Spirit you need to win the other fight you are having a hard time with]. Overtime you can also unlock characters to help you fight (they are also added to your Smash rooster). I cannot tell you too much more about this mode, for I have not gotten to far.

Overall the game is very fun and engaging, and it has lots of characters to choose from each Nintendo game. There are some characters that I wish that they would add on to the rooster, and I find it kind of odd that they are adding Piranha Plant later on when there are characters they could use from their other games and from the franchises they have characters from. It's also really nice to have different modes to choose from, though I'm pretty sure the other Smash Bro. Games have various modes to choose from, and that each mode is very captivating (maybe a little too captivating...). Some modes, World of Light for example, you play the Smash or use the Training mode first before you try to play them so you have more practice; also try out different characters and not just play as the ones you are used to playing as (you'll thank me later). It's also kind of annoying on World of Light that you have to run around the map to find certain Spirits you need for certain fights, but at the same time at least you get unlock really cool areas on the map. Another thing that I like with World of Light is how they choose Kirby to be the main character in this instead of Mario, for it gives it an underdog kind of feel; I hope that I'm not spoiling thing when say this but I love that some of the characters try to save each other during the fight. If you enjoyed the other Smash Bros Games then I think that you will enjoy Super Smash Bros Ultimate.

Enjoy beating the heck out of each other gamers!
