At the Lewis and Clark Humane Society, some dogs and cats can come in and go to their new homes within a matter of hours, but sometimes, shelter life becomes inescapable.

For instance, two dogs currently at the shelter, Valentino and Panda Bear, have been with the shelter since May 22nd of 2018 after being abandoned by their previous owner.

Panda Bear is a Husky X (cross), and looks very much like a Husky. She has the classic grey and white Husky look, with beautiful brown eyes.

Valentino is a Lab Husky X and has the body conformation of a Husky, yet the coloration of a Lab. He, just like Panda, has gorgeous brown eyes.

These two love-birds prefer to be outside rather than in, as is common for big dogs like them.

Size is part of the reason that shelter life has lasted so long for, “Tino and Panda” as the LCHS staff called them.

Being such big dogs, many typical residential owners aren’t able to bring them home due to the size of their house, yard, etc. They would need to be exercised more than smaller dogs due to the difference in energy levels, but they are so worth it. It is essential that the pair are able to have enough space for their large bodies.

Another explanation for the duration of their time at the shelter is the fact that Valentino and Panda are a bonded pair. This means that it will be required that they leave the shelter together and live together for the rest of their lives. They absolutely love each other and are basically inseparable. When you see them in person, you can see the love they have for each other in their eyes. While they currently see each other during playtime, they would love to be physically together whenever they want.

Shelter life is stressful for all animals, but the length of time paired with the other factors listed is takes a toll.

It is a big favor to ask, but the duo (and their caretakers) are beginning to become desperate.

However they’re still holding onto the hope that their new, perfect owner is out there looking for them just as hard as they are hoping for their forever home!

If you think you or your family would be a good fit to take in these two beautiful dogs, please stop by the LCHS Facility to fill out an application!
