On February 11th, 2019, the CHS bands had their concert in the Capital High Auditorium. It was a very good concert, very professional, but not so professional that it wasn’t fun to listen to. The Freshman band, the first to perform, played “Pandora,” “The Land To Defend,” and “The Great Race.” The Jazz Band played, “How Long Has This Been Going On.” I would say that my favorite song from that was “Pandora” because it was very pretty.
One of the very cool things about being in Jazz Band is the fact that the students get to compose their own music! Mr. Zehr chose three students to present the songs that they composed at the concert. Slayden Rasmussen, a freshman, composed a song that he called “Gin and the Tonic.” Tyler Tobel, a junior, wrote a song called “D. All of the Above.” And last but not least, Charlie Michaletz, also a junior, wrote what he called “Mr. Light.” If I had heard any of these songs for the first time that night and hadn’t known that students wrote them pieces, I would have thought that they were actually composed by adults. Well done, Jazz Band composers!
The CHS and CRA Concert Bands played “The Starts Asleep,” “The Break of Day,” and also a song called “Fire Dance.” After they played their two songs it was time for the regular CHS Concert Band to play their own two songs, which were “Everest,” and “American Fanfare.” Then, last but not least, the Symphonic Winds played their three songs. They performed “Caccia and Chorale,” “Symphony #1 “Titan”:Mvt 3,” and there final piece was “Galop.”
All in all, it was a very nice concert that lasted for about an hour and 15 minutes, so not really time consuming. If you are ever free on a day of a band concert, I totally recommend going to see one because they are pretty cool to watch and is also completely free!
