You walk into American History class the first day of class, and you see a student teacher standing there at the front of the room, but he’s not like the typical teachers most of us have. He’s willing to be joke around and is super interactive and amiable with his students. As you enter, you can hear him talking about how he feels “old” because he grew up with different icons like Chris Farley or Robin Williams while we grew up with the Kardashians or Ariana Grande. He also talks about Fortnite and even make jokes that can either make you laugh or rolls your eyes. This was Aaron Gilman. Many of us were lucky enough to have him as a teacher, but for those who didn’t here’s a little about him.

Aaron Gilman: for most he’s a student teacher for American History working under his two mentors-- Pat Larson, Kyle Mihelish. While sitting as a student in his class, you may hear him makes jokes like “You’re on the dab radar” or make up a class basketball team and change the roles everyday. But no matter what class you know him from, I bet I can give you more insight into Aaron Gilman.

He was born to a Military dad and a mom who is a daycare teacher. He has a younger and an older brother. Gillman started in the town of Glasgow, where he lived on the highline. After only two years, he moved to Helena where he attended Four Georgians Elementary School. Once more, he moved, this time to Billings in third grade. Finally, he moved back to Helena and went to our own Capital High School.

During his Capital High years, Gilman played football, basketball, and baseball. In his senior year, the basketball team took second place in state. After he graduated, he moved to Billings where he went to school at Montana State Billings to be an engineer just like his older brother. Gilman soon found out that the engineering field wasn’t for him. He is now attending Bozeman State University where he is going to graduate with his teaching degree this year. When asked about his experience he said, “One of my successes is surviving student teaching.” He also told me that he believes that some of his successes are taking second place in state senior basketball and being able to now teach basketball.

Aaron knew he enjoyed being around kids due to the fact that his mom was a daycare teacher. This inspired him to decide he wanted to become a teacher. When he isn’t teaching his students, cracking jokes, or saying things like “SnapFacing,” he can be found working as this not his only job, playing basketball, or reading a book. But he can also be found playing a game of Fortnite, Maddin, or NBA 2.
